The geographical location of Bulgaria determines the significant changes in the temperature of the air and the presence of two clearly differentiated, opposite characteristics of the annual seasons – winter and summer, and the transition between them – spring and autumn.
Most suitable for motorcycle riding months throughout the year are from mid May till late October, but it all depends on the current meteorological fronts, which influence Bulgaria at a given point of time.
For example during current year (2018) we had an unusually high amount of rains, cold and unpleasant, especially for motorcycle riding, days. The weather began to stabilize during end of July.
The overall suitable for riding weather begins in mid May with some rains and few cold and windy days. After mid June it’s already well stabilized and continues till mid September, when the meteorological environment changes and reminds more the beginning – mid May. After end of September the weather is still good for motorcycle trips till end of October. After that there are occasional windows of opportunity to practice the beloved hobby.
Sometimes even in January one can find good conditions to get out and ride, but it’s on very rare occasions not worthy mentioning.
Air temperatures.
The average annual temperature for most of Bulgaria is between 10 and 14 ° C (in accordance to some sources the average for the country is 10.5 ° C), but in the different parts of the country it changes substantially. For the non-mountain lands, it is usually between 10 and 13 ° C. The highest is in Sandanski – 13.9 ° C, and the lowest is at Musala peak -2.9 ° С.
The average annual temperatures show strong dependence on the altitude, and with its increase they decrease.
Less differentiated are the changes under the influence of the latitude, i.e. the southern parts of the country have higher average annual temperatures, especially during the cold half-year.
